a modern telling of the beatitudes

blessed are those who don’t have it all together.
blessed are those who have run out of strength, ideas, will power, resolve, or energy.
blessed are those who ache because of how severely out of whack the world is.
blessed are those stumble, trip, and fall in the same place again and again.
blessed are those who on a regular basis have a dark day in which despair seems to be a step behind them wherever they go.
blessed are you, for God is with you, God is on your side, God meets you in that place.

the gospel is the counter-intuitive, joyous, exuberant news that Jesus has brought the unending, limitless, stunning love of God to even us.

whoa, whoa, whoa wait a second. i thought the beatitudes were about being humility and meekness... seeking righteousness, purity, mercy, and peace. Not necessarily to those who are having a bad day or are in perpetual sin.

The Bible states "narrow is the road that leads to life.. and few find it"... "Let us run with endurance the race set before us" "run in such a way to get the prize!"... not run out.

Scripture of the Essenes, Buddah's Elephant Head Mt. Sermon, or Christ's Sermon on the Mount... the emphasis seems to focus on the individual's posture and outlook rather than their current circumstances. The current state of your life does not prescribe what blessings you may receive... it's how you deal with it.

... and i'm back following andrew's postings :)

dallas willard.
the idea is that "poor in spirit" is not a good quality.
re: blessed are those who dont have it all together.

another example would be "blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness"
re: it's the lack that is blessed - the hunger, not "having righteousness"

cheers!
