confronting global crisis

came across this beautifully concise writing from the book "hope in troubled times" regarding the confrontation of global crisis. i'll be studying all day for teachings, papers and such - come by, have some exchange-conversation.

almost every current diagnosis of the crisis of our time lacks something fundamental. many observers neglect how deep desires can coalesce into a modernist perspective, orientation, or worldview that, despite its claims to the contrary, is capable of contributing to, sustaining and even entrenching global poverty, environmental devastation, and widespread violence, they forget or ignore the role played by people's deepest longings, dreams and commitments - and how these profound aspirations become inscribed in the dynamic forces, interactional patterns and institutions of contemporary western society.

assessments usually miss altogether what goes on at the deepest level in people's hearts and minds, what engages and moves them, what captures their imaginations, fills their hearts, and satisfies their expectations...

neglecting this dimension deeply hampers the ability to break through the solution deadlock and find responsible solutions to the world's most complex, pressing problems.
